Seven reasons you're stuck - and the seven things you need to become unstuck
Throw off the shackles!
This is the start of my journey on Substack and - sound the horns! - the end of week one.
Firstly, there’s a lot to get your head around on this platform. In fact, what’s the world record for falling down Substack rabbit holes because I’m definitely in the running?
But fear not, I’m soaking it up like the proverbial word sponge. (“Is that a thing?” - Ed).
Thankfully, this is not the start of my writing journey. I’ve been writing, editing, teaching, mentoring and rewriting for as long as I can remember.
Writing is in my blood but that’s not to say it’s always easy. It isn’t. Life can get in the way and in my experience, many writers are master procrastinators. And guess what? I’m no different!
However, along the way, I’ve learned how to motivate myself in order to go from lofty wafty idea, to page one, to typing those glorious words, ‘The End’.
My aim here is to do the same for you via this exciting publishing platform. I want to know about your progress, your wins and also what you think you might need from me to help you get over those pesky writing bumps.
Going back to its genesis, The TEN was my way of bringing the writing community together during lockdown. I started the group on Facebook and would hold Zooms where participants would share work and ideas. I’d also post interesting articles, words of encouragement and anything else that took my fancy to the group page, so expect more of the same here.
Lockdown was so incredibly isolating, which is a blessing and a curse for any writer. But I know from running my own in-person writer’s group (back when I lived in LA), that sharing and discussing your work can be an invaluable resource.
Today, I’m focused on getting you started if you’re stuck.
In the attached e-book, I outline why you might be stuck, what might be holding you back on your writing journey and what you’ll need to draw on to move past those obstacles.
These are broad themes and I’ll be drilling down on each over the coming months.
And while I don’t know you personally, one thing I’m certain of is that if you’ve found your way to The TEN, you already have all the fire you need within you.
My role is to be here by your side, point you in the right direction and give you a little nudge when you need it.
The exercise at the end of the e-book is also designed to motivate, so I suggest you pin it on the wall in front of you (or to one side, I’m not fussy) and keep your eye on the prize!
