Look at us humans muddling through. And never more so than on a Monday morning.
We’re all unique life forces striving to find our way in the world and learning as we go.
Art, I believe, is key to that process but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
When I’m overwhelmed by the task ahead of me I usually eat cheese (hey, don’t knock it until you try it).
And I also think of Kurt Vonnegut, the satirical American writer and author of Slaughterhouse Five, who said this:
“Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower, Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, easy a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
Well said, Kurt. Art makes life more bearable. It’s worth the blood, sweat and tears because it IS the blood, sweat and tears.
So muddle through, live your lives and, if you can, create art along the way. And if you happen to write some lousy poetry, don’t forget to share it with the group.
Have a great week!
