I don’t know if you remember but a couple of motes ago I mentioned that I’d started keeping a Happiness Log.
I’ve promoted it to caps because it’s been so effective. A grammar promotion!
Every day since mid May I’ve been adding words to this teeny tiny notebook. It’s not a journal so I’m not writing as such but jotting down brief descriptions.
My favourites to date are:
“Ate an Orange Twirl”
“Cleaned desk”
“Long day of work but grateful”
“The yellow roses are out”
“Coffee on bench in sunshine”
“7am seafront walk”
“Sock behind radiator”
“Sang Backstreet Boys loudly/plus dance moves”
And this miracle: “Unexpected early payment”
Now, in the grand scheme of things none of this appears to amount to a hill of beans but in reality, taking time to notice - and appreciate - the tiny pockets of good has made a huge difference to my mood.
I’ve been less anxious and overwhelmed and that’s given me the space to figure out some other stuff too; one being the structure of The TEN, which I outlined in yesterday’s post.
I wrote the first page of my novel yesterday too. PROGRESS. (More of that to come in this week’s Summer Breeze update).
So my plea to you if you’re sitting in a negative space right now is to start noting the good things. They’re there, trust me.
My first entry in May was “Put laundry away”. That opened the floodgates.
I kept adding and every entry has lightened the load. Coping with life’s challenges becomes a little easier when you’re aware of all the positives.
*steps off soapbox*
This has been a public service announcement.
And yes, it’s going in the Happiness Log.
Have a great week!
Lisa
