…was almost your Tuesday mote!
Not sure what happened but clearly something went wrong with the flux capacitor.
I blame the bank holiday. In the UK, this was our first one of May and I spent much of weekend reading, gardening and eating cake.
I also performed improv on Saturday night, at a cabaret show, and that was great fun. However, the act on before us before spilled liquids all over the floor so it felt like we were skating around on a comedy banana skin for the entire show.
Fortunately, no bones were broken (just the boundaries of taste).
The comedy theme continues. My motivation to write this week is that I’m taking part in a stand up competition, this Friday.
I need to get a tight five minutes together, and then I need to memorise it. The time constraint is always fun as I love to go off on a tangent. But this Friday I’ll be gonged off the stage if I go over. This is tricky because when there’s a live audience in front of you, anything can happen. And often does.
But a looming deadline is a wonderful thing.
Nothing lights the fire of urgency up the backside of procrastination than knowing that something absolutely has to be done by a certain time.
If you’re writing I urge you to create your own deadline because this is how you get stuff done.
It can be as simple as a date or a word count. Literally, anything where you draw a line in the sand is going to help you get over said line.
This week, I’ll look at the last set I did and rewrite that. By Thursday I’ll have it down to what I think is five minutes and I’ll spend the next 24 hours rehearsing and refining.
By 9pm Friday night, I’ll be armed with what I think is quite possibly the funniest five minutes in the history of humankind.
Hubris, helps too!

Here's to a productive week before the show!
