How can it possibly be February already?
I feel I need to say this because whilst everyone I know has been talking about how interminable January was, I’ve been so engrossed in creating The TEN, it verily skipped along.
A thousand thank yous to everyone who has subscribed or followed. You are the OG’s and I’m delighted to have you here.
What I’ve found with writing is that inspiration comes from unexpected places.
I was listening to Radio 4 earlier this week - for yes, I am a woman of a certain age - and during Wednesday’s culture programme, Front Row, they discussed a new exhibition called Great Escapes, which is opening at the National Archives at Kew, in south London.
They mentioned P.G. Wodehouse, the author of both the Blandings and Jeeves books, who was interned for more than a year, in 1941, after the fall of France.
I stopped in my tracks when I heard them discuss the fact that during his incarceration ‘at camp’ (as he called it), he requested a portable typewriter so that he could keep working.
He wrote two books while he was locked up (in France, Belgium and Poland), and also contributed to a camp magazine.
And honestly, it made me think that if P.G. Wodehouse could find the energy to write in such challenging, and restrictive, circumstances then I could find a way to sit down this weekend for a few hours, as I simultaneously enjoy all the freedom that life today affords.
Wodehouse wrote 70 novels during his lifetime. That’s just showing off. Nevertheless, I shall metaphorically doff my cap in his direction as I tap away this weekend.
Happy writing!
