Oh hi there, potential new best friend.
I don’t know you and you don’t know me but over the course of the next few weeks, months and possibly years, we’re going to become very well acquainted.
Right now though, I’m keeping you at arm’s length.
You’re an unknown quantity and I’m a little wary.
I find myself weighing up a few things.
Is there space in my life for you?
Am I prepared to go deep?
Will this be a healthy relationship?
Are you going to bring me joy?
Tears?
Surprises?
I don’t make friends easily so you’re going to have to prove yourself to be something I can trust.
That goes both ways, I know. I also need to step up and commit to this thing.
So I suggest that we keep things easy breezy as we get to know each other. Go on a couple of dates, share a pizza, maybe watch a movie or two.
You know, hang out.
Look, it’s simple. I’ve been hurt by first drafts in the past. I got in over my head and it didn’t work out.
But I’ll tell you something for nothing; if this goes well, I’m all in.
It’s you and me all the way.
This could, quite literally, be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
So let’s give it a whirl, and see where this journey takes us.
After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained. And ultimately, nothing written.
