Dear writer, thanks for dropping in!

If you want to not just start writing but get to the finish line The TEN is here to help you.

Think of it as your personal trainer or cheerleader but with less pom poms (although thinking about it, maybe I should use more pom poms?).

I’ve written my little pants off for the last 30 years; that includes thousands of magazine and newspaper articles, one published memoir, books I’ve ghostwritten, TV shows, short films, numerous screenplays (a handful of which have been optioned), and many other editing and writing projects for corporations, entrepreneurs and everyone else in between.

In that time, I’ve learned a thing or two about getting the job done.

The philosophy behind The TEN is threefold.

Firstly, I will be sharing insights from other writers, and industry insiders, in the form of a cheeky questionnaire, called Ten for The TEN. These interviews are designed to give you a tantalising glimpse into the process of those who are already successfully writing and working in the business.

Secondly, it’s up to you how many hours a week you want to dedicate to your writing. Two hours is pretty solid, 20 seems a lot on top of what might be a full-time job, family, and a social life but TEN is a reasonable middle ground.

Finally, The TEN is also a digital magazine packed with regular features including a curated newsletter called The Write To Know, which is stuffed to the gills with reviews, recommendation, reads and other random bits and pieces.

Why do this? Because magazines and writing are in my bones.

My writing journey has taken me from my first job as a local paper journalist to working as a freelance writer, commissioning editor and editor for various publications in London, and then as a freelancer in Hollywood, interviewing A-listers, covering the movie industry and writing screenplays.

In Los Angeles, I ran a brilliantly effective in-person writer’s group. During the pandemic I moved that on to Facebook, and now I’m on Substack like a kid in a sweet shop.

I aim to get you over the line by gently but consistently encouraging you to get the job done.

Quills at the ready?

Then let’s go!

*bashes at keyboard furiously*

What else do you need to do?

Nothing. If you’ve subscribed, then every new edition of the newsletter will be sent directly to your inbox. If you want to access my video diaries and join in any writing challenges, then you’ll need to upgrade to paid.
