Where to begin? I guess w/ the Nora Ephron in Elle article. It was amazing. I always knew how fabulous she was but this one really pushed the envelope into the stratosphere. Thanks for that. There was so much good stuff in your post I can't get my head around it all right now. It was great though.

Jeanine! Your comment has made my day! Thank you. I've been bursting to share this kind of post for so long and Substack has finally made it possible. But yes, Nora was an absolute powerhouse. I love her work and reading about her start in life was so interesting - just look at the ingrained sexism. She had to start in the mail room because there were no other positions for women! *head explodes* She was lucky that she had some great people to champion her (and I think this is necessary for all of us in life) but her talent was extraordinary.

We all knew about the sexism but the details of how it really worked—mind-blowing, she wrote it so succinctly. A Wellesley education and a mail room start. But man did she fly. I liked the one passage after she was at The Post, making strides, passed the Newsweek bldg at night, looked up and thought, I know what they're doing. I can just see her playing poker, snide asides, and everyone loving her to pieces w. that sharp ever-present wit. It reminded me of His Girl Friday, too. And she lived it. As mentioned, I still gotta unpack the rest of your post. So glad you are writing these! Thank you!
