Goldberg's book was one of my early bibles as I wove my way through learning to write. Loved it! I did forget this quote though, which is priceless, and so true!
It's fascinating to look at her trajectory - she wrote her whole life but only earned widespread recognition in her later years. Then her reputation was trashed after her death. But this century, she's risen to prominence again as people realize how quotable she is in the age of the IG soundbite. Definitely a woman before her time.

I think Anaïs Nin said it first and more succinctly than Natalie Goldberg:
“ We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

There a tragic poetry to all of that. I think I may owe Anaïs her own post at some point!
