If you enjoyed Once Upon A Time World, I can recommend The Riviera Set by Mary S Lovell which covers 1920 to 1960 at the Chateau de L'Horizon on the Cote d'Azur with a cast of very, very famous people from Edward and Wallis via Churchill to Rita Hayworth. It also has a great picture on the front too!
At Shakespeare & Company, George Whitman did!! He had all these beds huddled into the stacks! He even asked Paul and me if we needed a bed for the night(we did not—we were at the Esmeralda around the corner). He’d offer writers and artists a place to stay—at the store! And Sundays. Tea for all! Cool guy.

Oh yes, that's a lovely cover. I hadn't heard of the book but it looks great. I think this might be a new favourite sub section of reading!
I can lend you my copy of Wintering if you struggle to track it down x
Ah thanks. I’m sure it was there, I just got distracted by a pretty picture! 😂
What a great cover on French Riviera book! Great post. I do love book stores!
I wonder if they’d let us camp out overnight?
